INTRODUCTION

What Is Egocentric Data Collection?

Egocentric data, captured from the wearer's own point of view through head-mounted cameras, smart glasses, and body-worn sensors, has become foundational to how embodied AI and robotics systems learn.

A robot learning to manipulate an object, an AR headset understanding a user's hand gestures, a human activity recognition model interpreting how a task unfolds, or a system trained to recognize unsafe behavior on a factory floor, they all depend on high-quality training data that reflects how a human actually sees, moves, and interacts with their environment, not a fixed, third-person camera watching from a distance.

Qualitas Global collects this data at scale. Our egocentric data collection capability is wearable and head-mounted, multi-modal, and built to synchronize multiple data streams and multiple participants at once. We support scripted collection for controlled, repeatable scenarios, unscripted collection for naturalistic behavior, and structured capture of both basic and instrumental activities of daily living. Every capture is designed around the specific hand-object interactions, environments, and edge cases your AI model requires to generalize.

DATA COLLECTION CAPABILITIES

Egocentric Data Collection Across Industries and Use Cases

  • 3 use cases

    Embodied AI & Robotics

    • Robotics and Embodied AI

We capture first-person demonstration data for imitation learning and manipulation training, recording the precise sequence of hand movements, grasps, and object interactions a robot needs to learn a task. This gives model teams a direct behavioral reference rather than a hand-labeled approximation of one.

    • Human-Robot Interaction and Collaborative Robotics

We record real interaction sequences between people and robots in shared workspaces, capturing proximity, handoff moments, and response behavior. This supports AI model development for robots that need to operate safely and predictably alongside people.

    • Autonomous Navigation and Wearable Trajectory Forecasting

We capture wearable trajectory and movement data to support AI models that predict human path and motion intent. This is relevant to navigation systems, mobile robots, and any application where anticipating human movement is part of safe operation.

  • 2 use cases

    AR/VR & Human-Computer Interaction

    • AR/VR and Smart Glasses

We collect wearable, head-mounted data suited to Meta Quest, Project Aria, HoloLens-class devices, and comparable platforms. Synchronized gaze, hand tracking, and scene data help AR/VR teams train models that respond accurately to how a user actually looks at and reaches for objects in their environment.

    • Human-Computer Interaction and Gesture-Based Interfaces

We capture detailed hand and gesture data from the user's own point of view to support gesture-based interface development. This is directly relevant to touchless control systems, AR/VR interaction design, and any interface that depends on recognizing natural hand movement.

  • 4 use cases

    Industrial & Workplace AI

    • Industrial and Warehouse Operations Monitoring

We capture first-person footage of real warehouse and industrial workflows, including picking, staging, and movement between zones. This gives operations and automation teams a ground-truth view of how work is actually performed, which supports AI models for process monitoring and safety analysis.

    • Assembly Line and Manufacturing Task Verification

We record task execution from the worker's point of view on live assembly lines, documenting each step in sequence. This data supports models built to verify task completion, detect deviations from standard procedure, and flag missed steps.

    • Workplace Safety and Hazard Compliance Monitoring

We record first-person footage of real workplace conditions to support safety compliance and hazard detection models. This gives safety teams a worker's-eye view of near misses, procedural gaps, and hazard exposure that fixed CCTV coverage often misses.

    • Procedural Skill Training and Vocational Instruction

We record expert task execution from a first-person viewpoint for use in vocational and procedural training models. This data can support instructional AI systems designed to guide a learner through a task step by step, using a real expert's own hand movements as the reference.

  • 3 use cases

Healthcare, Human Behavior & Child Development Research

    • Healthcare and Assistive AI

We collect egocentric data to support patient movement monitoring and rehabilitation applications, capturing how movement and assistance actually occur during care and recovery. All healthcare data collection follows the same consent, anonymization, and compliance protocols we apply across our medical imaging and healthcare data programs.

    • Cognitive Science and Human Behavior Research

We support academic and applied research teams with structured egocentric data collection designed around specific research protocols. Our scripted and unscripted collection modes allow researchers to capture both controlled experimental conditions and naturalistic behavior in the same program.

    • Child Development and Caregiver Interaction Research

We collect egocentric data to support research into child development and caregiver interaction patterns, following strict consent, ethics, and data protection protocols appropriate to research involving minors. All collection in this category is conducted under clearly defined research governance agreed with the client in advance.

  • 1 use case

    Sports & Activity AI

    • Sports and Fitness Motion Analysis

We record first-person motion data during sports and fitness activity, capturing technique, movement sequences, and body positioning from the athlete's own perspective. This complements third-person sports tracking data with a viewpoint that shows exactly what the athlete sees and does.

  • 2 use cases

    Life logging & Cooking

    • Episodic Memory and Life-Logging Applications

We capture continuous, first-person data streams suited to life-logging and episodic memory research, where the goal is a persistent record of daily activity and experience rather than a single scripted task. This supports work in memory augmentation, personal AI assistants, and longitudinal behavior studies.

    • Cooking and Kitchen Activity Understanding

We capture structured, first-person data of cooking and kitchen tasks, an established category within instrumental activities of daily living. This supports model development for kitchen activity recognition, step sequencing, and assistive cooking applications.

  • 1 use case

    Consumer & Skills AI

    • Retail and In-Store Consumer Behavior Analysis

We capture wearable, first-person data of real in-store shopping behavior, including browsing patterns, product interaction, and decision points. This gives retail AI teams behavioral data that reflects actual customer movement through a store, rather than inferred behavior from fixed cameras alone.
